DW Fanfic Recs
You know how I was talking about doing a Doctor Who fic recs thing? A bit after making that post, I sobered up (1) and realized it'd be easier to just post a list here and update it as needed. That's Lily for you, always making things more complicated than they need to be.
So without further ado - the bloody recs post!

"Write your own story then," Zoe says. "We're in a land of fiction. We can do anything we want."
This fic has a surreal, almost magical quality, and I love it. Zoe and Victoria never got to meet in canon, and that's a shame. There's so much each of them could have given and taught the other. (Zoe/Victoria)

17 Reasons Why Romana is (better than) the Doctor, by Calapine
He’s moping about on Earth and becoming far too familiar with some of their more arcane customs. And he really wishes that he hadn’t started flicking through that book on marital law.
Seems a bit unfair that after the divorce, she got the family dog and he got stuck with the bratty kid.

"I said, would you mind bending your head?"
"What for?" the Doctor inquired, without turning to look at her.
"Because I should rather like to kiss you."

"Why would you want to do that?"
Four. Romana. Paris. Cuteness. Why are you still here, instead of reading? (Four/Romana)

Her heart pounded with audacity and want. It felt awkward, rushing in like this, but her body told her it was right, and her mind told her there simply might not be another chance if she backed down.
"Well," the Doctor demurred, "I thought we could play checkers."
Not only is this fic hot as all hell, but it has telepathic smut and deals marvelously with the issues inherent, rather than glossing them over. Which, you know, is part of what makes it hot. (Four/Sarah Jane)

Logical, by kazokuhouou
One of them was a renegade Time Lord called the Master. For most of his lives he travelled around the universe spreading evil and corruption. Only one single person dared to defy him every time, and that person was sharing a laugh with him now.
Short and sweet. A great coda to "Curse of the Fatal Death." (Lumley!Doctor/Pryce!Master)

Momento Vita, by Kate
And just like that, Rose is better. Real smiles, real laughter, no dark circles under her eyes, none of the grief that had lingered about her before.
Jack watches her intently, always ready with a witty remark or a charming smile whenever she notices.
The Doctor watches both of them, and says nothing.
Jack and Rose find ways of mourning a man who isn't really dead. AU of New Series season 2, and intense enough that I don't care about the non-canonicity. (Jack/Rose; hints of Rose/Nine and Jack/Nine, with Ten woven through the whole of it. I...really make things sound more complicated than they are. It's a gift.)

Tailored, by Kate
The Doctor blinked, staring at Rose. Her arms were around Mickey, her lithe body tight against him, rumpling the suit she was wearing.
His suit. His spare suit.
One thing I've noticed about the vast majority of smutty DW fic is that it falls into two categories - entirely vanila, or altogether dark. Both can be great, but sometimes, I just want something a bit more kinky, without the need to visit a therapist afterward. I ask, and this fic delivers. Thank you, Kate! (Rose/Mickey/(Ten))

The Unbearable Lightness of Screwing, by amberite
Rose laughs, blown over by his intentional gaucherie, nervous. The body he used to live in still ghosts on the nerves in her skin, when she's not quite asleep or awake. She thinks she scents him, sometimes, and then turns around and it's a different him who smells like exotic spices and like dressed-up hair, and not like leather.
Smells like something she wants, too. She knows it in her spine.
Ten and Rose, restarting a relationship rather than beginning one, and the duality of familiar and strange really does make all the difference. Hot and vivid, with keen character insight. (Ten/Rose)

Tiny Human Heads, by Kalima
“Seriously, though,” she said. “How do you cock up an entire universe? And why haven’t I noticed it’s cocked up?”
“Because you have a tiny human head.”
“Oh. So it’s something too vast for my tiny human head to comprehend, then?”
“Well, Sarah Jane, it is the Universe after all.”
So you start out thinking this is going to be cute and sexy, with a dollop of angst. And it is. Except for when it *hits you over the head, breaks you into teeny tiny little pieces and makes you say 'thank you' when it's done*. (Ten/Sarah)

She gives him an incredulous look. “First time I met you, you came on to me. Heavy, but... nice. Not sleazy. Like no bloke’s ever done before. Then I find out you’re only doing it to con me. Wasn’t real. You think after that I could ever trust you again?”
I've read plenty of fics where Jack has to gain the Doctor's trust, after being brought aboard the TARDIS, but until now, I hadn't run across one where it's Rose he has to win over. Which isn't as easy as he thinks, considering his first meeting with her was a con. This fic takes no shortcuts, developing the bonds between all three of the leads, in the interim between "The Doctor Dances" and "Boom Town." (Jack/Rose/Nine)

A Phantom of Clouds, by Doyle
"Fine. Up to you, Rose, yes or no?"
She dumped a spoonful of sugar into her tea, hmming. "I dunno. I mean, there's so much to consider, what would this mean for us? Is it something we're ready for? Of course, this'd be easier if I knew what you were on about."
Doyle's rendition of the Trio is spot-on perfect. They're all funny, and smart and just a little bit broken. You get a real sense of belonging and love, though it's not of the easy or sappy variety - just how I like it! (Some Nine/Jack/Rose)

Between Dreams, by Casira
"Because you had to save her," Jack says. There's still a sharp edge to it, one that only escalates the guilty flare of sensation up his spine. "You love her -- you love all of us -- but you love her more." He steps closer again, breathing too hard. "But you'll leave her, too. And you're scared shitless she won't forgive you."
His throat feels dry. He doesn't need to say it aloud: just like you haven't.
Hot and disturbing, all in one breath. There are no easy solutions to be found here. (Ten/Rose, Ten/Jack)

Evolution, by NNWest
She gave up trying to get through Oliver Twist on the second try. Didn't even get twenty pages into A Tale of Two Cities. Short stories sound less daunting, so she's giving one of the Doctor's favourites a go. She's not sure why it's important, but it just seems like something she needs to do.
"Whatcha doing?" Jack's lounging against the doorframe and she wonders whether he's always done that or whether it's something he got from the Doctor.
'Like you. Only with datin' and dancing.'
Sometimes, I want drama, and heavy plot, and twists that make me rethink everything I know. And sometimes, dammit, I just want cute OT3 fic, with a slow progression from friendship to love and great character voices. This fic belongs to the latter category, and in the wake of Torchwood, it was badly needed, indeed. (Nine/Jack/Rose)

Steal Me Away, by themonkeycabal
Once upon a time, Jack Harkness had been a thief. He liked to tell himself that it was only in response to the crappy hand life dealt him, that he only conned the people who could stand the loss, or the people who'd hurt him the most. He liked to think of it as rebellion. A dashing, suave, ne'er-do-well with a heart of gold. Somewhere along the way, though, that gold tarnished, and the rebel turned jaded. Then it was so easy to be the coward. To walk away when things got hot. To look out for number one, and let the rest of the fools hang themselves.
Like it or not, "Doomsday" has pretty much put a lid on the idea of the Doctor, Rose and Jack ever reuniting. However, every so often, a fic comes along, and it's so vivid, well-characterized and satisfying that even I feel it's ok to forget canon for a little while and let myself bask in a little bit of a happy ending. This is such a fic. (Jack/Ten/Rose)

If I was wearing a hat right now, it would be off to this writer. Owen's POV is one of the most difficult to write, in the history of - dare I say it - character POVs. He's abrasive, funny, sexual, sarcastic, and buried-under-all-these-things *human*. Minimarie's Owen is all of this and more. His voice is pitch-perfect and his observation of Jack detailed, insoghtful and accute. Plus there's guns and biology, and smut that's dirty and hot as hell without ever being explicit, a fact you don't notice till well after you've finished the fic. (Jack/Owen)

My Beautiful Laundrette, by Nostalgia
Alright, now he was going mental. It was completely the Doctor’s fault. For being, well, shaggable. It wasn't fair. He’d been a complete bastard, making Fitz fancy him like that. He’d slowly infiltrated the bit of Fitz’s brain that decided what things were OK to shag. It was bloody evil of him. The git. At least girls gave you warning. That was what breasts were for, wasn’t it? So you knew that you might potentially fancy them at some point.
Poor Fitz. He really is confused. It's not his fault being around the Doctor makes you question your sexuality. This doesn't mean I won't point and laugh every time he claims he's totally straight, though. (Some Fitz/Eight; a little Fitz/Anji)
---
No Consideration for Others, by aces
“You always assure me it’s his fault,” Ushas rolled her eyes, sitting back in her chair and listening to it creak. She made sure to keep her hair away from anything too toxic on the desk. “I thought perhaps that if I cut through the usual recriminations and muttering and agreed with you from the outset, this might take a little less time. If you must recriminate and mutter to yourself about what a bastard he is, shall I come back in about twenty minutes? Will that be enough time to get it out of your system?”
Uni fic! With Theta (The Doctor) and Koschei (The Master) being all huffy and insufferable at each other, and Ushas (The Rani) rolling her eyes at them both. There is much caring here, beneath the flaring tempers, and it makes me whimper, because you can already see the bitter end. (Theta/Koschei - could be interpreted at gen friendship, but my gut says to put it here)

Priority, by Severa
“Can't trust a soldier in beige?” The Doctor laughed, and the Brigadier grabbed the paper back. “Still, I suppose it will be for the best. I imagine you're very dashing in green.” The Doctor stood. “Once you're done worrying over your men's fashion, do try to hurrying along finding me an assistant. Talking to myself so much is worrisome. It's the first sign of madness they say.”
“Are you sure it's the first sign you should be worrying about, Doctor?”
Three and Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart bond, in the interim when the Doctor lacks an assistant. It's lovely and understated, and sows some of the early signs of why the Brig is one of the best, when it comes to understanding the Doctor. (Some Three/Brig)

Survivor's Guilt, by amberite
"D'you like to know what I dreamed of, Jack?" The Doctor's predatory smile made the hair stand up on Jack's forearms, made a hot, prickly haze of fear and arousal move through him. "Ask me what I dreamed of."
An attempt at persuading the Doctor for a friendly shag turns into something far darker. I read this fic having somehow missed the warnings and man, was I ever taken for a plunge. Yes, this is dark, and yes, it's fucked up, but the fic never descends into trite angst and the pain makes the hope at the end all the more rich for it. I'm now convinced that, if there's to be Nine/Jack fic that doesn't include Rose, *this* is something like what it should be. (Nine/Jack; ADULT, in more than just the usual 'here there be sex' meaning of the word)

The Beautiful Simplicity of Motion, by Nostalgia
"Do you?" asks the Doctor. "Love me?" He looks scared and hopeful and hurt and happy all at once.
Jack thinks for a moment. "I don't think you've ever met anyone who didn't."
"That's the worst part," says the Doctor. "No, second worst. Worst is-"
"That you love them right back."
"Two hearts, can't help it."
I've heard this fic described as the antidote to sap, and I concur. This is love without romance; hope without a happily ever after. It's *Ten* and it's *Jack*, and it's perfect for the two of them. (Ten/Jack)

(Ten/Jack)

The Body Predictable, by livii
He moves his hands around, feeling out the spaces that don't correlate, the flat chest, the rough hair. The muscles in Benton's stomach are working away at an alarming pace. He thinks about telling Benton about blood flow and oxygen levels, but he takes a look at Benton's face first and bites his tongue.
Both hot and awkward, without ever being awkwardly written. 'Real' is the word I'm looking for, and that's always a joy. (Harry/Benton)

Last Updated: Dec 1, 2006. Moved gen recs to their own page.
This list will be in a constant state of update. I'll also try and dig up alternate links as much as I can, in case Teaspoon or LJ crashes again. Though if LJ crashes, it's not like you'd be able to see this list, either.
1. Note that I wasn't actually drunk at the time. My migraine just made me wish I were.
