Yamabuki name dorkiness

What I learned today, in Japanese:

Konomi must have been paying homage to his inner Dabide, when he named most of the Yamabuki team. To wit:

North - Kita
South - Minami
East - Higashi (kata)
West - Nishi (kiori)

I'm not sure what this is supposed to signify, but is it not nifty?

And on that note...
