Remember that time last year when I spammed your friendslist with 48 entries over the course of 24 hours? Well, that time is here again.
What is Blogathon
As some of you may have guessed by the -thon suffix, a blogathon is an event where people raise money for charities while fulfilling a preset quota of an activity - blogging in this case. The goal is to post continuously every half an hour for twenty-four hours.
So, when exactly does this Blogathon take place?
We start 9:00 AM sharp, on July 26.
But Lily, I heard Blogathon wasn't actually happening this year?
It's true, the folks who used to run this event seem to have backed out. However, it's still possible to participate without the guiding structure if one is determined enough, and (especially) if you're blogging side-by-side with others who really know what they're doing.
...And who would that be, exactly
Once again, I'll be blogging as a part of Team Venture, headed by the lovely
shadesong. This year, the team includes
shadesong,
wired_lizard,
slipjig,
rafaela,
eustaciavye,
jennifer,
nevacaruso,
figmentj,
ewin and
zarhooie, as well as myself. Big team!
All right then. Are you ever going to tell us who you're blogging for?
Yes, I am. Right now, in fact. I'll be blogging for the Joslin Diabetes Center, the world's largest diabetes research center (located right here in Boston.) They're also a great source of diabetes education, as well as a top-notch treatment clinic.
Tell us why, Lily
Diabetes runs in my family. My mom was diagnosed with it several years back. The specialist she sees is herself part of the Joslin clinic. Even in the short amount of time since Mom's diagnosis, breakthroughs have been made in diabetes treatment and care. This goes for both the immediate health concerns and the quality of day-to-day life for those living with diabetes. My grandmother, for instance, had to get the ubiquitous insulin injections. My mom has, thus far avoided those in favor of oral medications. Considering how likely I am to be heading in the same direction and knowing how much I loooove needles, that's no small thing.
I want to sponsor you, but how do I do that?
Simply go to Joslin's own donation page, here, and donate as much money as you're willing and able, then forward the receipt to me. Commenting here will also help me keep track of donors.
Going back to the blogging aspect: what will you be posting about?
For the most part, I'll be posting snippets of my original works in progress, much the way I posted fanfic drabbles last year. This is what happens when you're out of fandom. :) I may also post BPAL reviews (with
shadesong's collection, how can I resist?), random lists and live reporting (read: descriptions of people getting steadily more silly as sleep deprivation sets in.)
If you have other suggestions, feel free to post them here. Prompts will make my life infinitely easier.
I have some other question not covered here.
Ask away. I don't bite.
