Funding for abstinence education likely to drop

Gooood, sez I. Maybe now the number of teenage pregnancies and STDs will go down as well.

It's not fucking working! Dumbasses, why don't they educate SAFE SEX!

Dumbasses

I think you just answered your own question.

About time, too. That one's too easy to get into a rant about -- I'm not even going to get started.

Indeed! My high school's health program may have been kind of crappy, but it was still better than abstinence ed.

My favorite part was this "timeline" the abstinence-ed people acted out for us in class, using the average age of hitting puberty (13), marriage (25), and death (75). Essentially, the argument was that if we waited for 12 years, we'd have 50 years of "great sex" (those words exactly!) for the rest of our lives. So, in the long run, why not wait?

...and yes, they said all of that with a straight face!

*dead* ...Now I'm getting an idea for a film - like Reefer Madness, only with Abstinence Education. Cause this stuff is comedy gold.

You should so totally do this.

Bwahahah!

Bleah. Hopefully. When my human sexuality class had presenters from both Abstinence Only and the Safe Sex people, both groups seemed more interested in trashing each other than in actually doing shit for kids.

It happens, sad to say. Though I'm not sure how your teacher expected anything else, if the two groups were invited to attend at the same time. (Were they?)

No, they came two different days. And they still BOTH spent the entire time saying how TERRIBLE AND EVIL the other side was. It was like the entire point of their campaigns is "Abstinence is awful!" or "Condoms are awful!" instead of like... teaching kids sex ed.

It frustrates me. :(

That's impressive. In its own incompentent way.
