Oh my God, whoever suggested to the Fantasy Book Critic site that having background music is a good idea is seriously made of stupid. Background music is never a good idea, especially if you want the site visitor to read things on the front page, or if, heaven forbid, they actually have their own music playing.

I'm sort of hoping it's coming from one of the book ads they've got posted and therefore not their fault. If that's the case, note to the advertiser: annoying the customer is a bad way to sell books.

Mutter.

Surprise background music is never good.

I forget what site it was, but for a while some site I visited had pop-unders that had sound and I'd freak out trying to find the source. Does that tactic really sell stuff?

Not to me it doesn't, and I've yet to see someone who actually likes it. People in charge of sales really should be more on the ball about that sort of thing.
