Yamabuki name dorkiness
Mar. 10th, 2005 11:48 amWhat I learned today, in Japanese:
Konomi must have been paying homage to his inner Dabide, when he named most of the Yamabuki team. To wit:
North - Kita
South - Minami
East - Higashi (kata)
West - Nishi (kiori)
I'm not sure what this is supposed to signify, but is it not nifty?

Date: 2005-03-10 09:18 am (UTC)(only minami and higashikata use the correct kanji, btw, for "south" and "eastern." kita and nishikiori use different ones, but the joke's still there.)
(also! In Japanese history, we can observe the Muromachi and Sengoku [sengoku with different kanji, but whatever] periods. And Nitobe Inazo -- with almost the same kanji as inakichi -- was a famous author and diplomat.)
Yamabuki is a history and cultural lesson! Now I just need to figure out where Dan and Akutsu... and, uhh, Banjii... come from. :PPP

Neat! I wonder if any of the other teams get a similar historical/cultural/other treatment.
Can't think of anything for Semedan or Akutsu, but I could've sworn I'd heard Banda elsewhere...
