mllelaurelNow that my blood pressure's gone back down to reasonable numbers, I can talk about the things I actually liked in "Day One".
- The hand. Which once belonged to Ten, of course. Which I so called, back when I first saw it in episode one. Go me! But yes. I love the way Jack is all protective of that hand. Him cradling it is one of those moments that's both disquieting and adorable.
- Toshiko. I can't decide whether I have a small crush on her, or whether she's the character I identify most with. Possibly both, and doesn't that just say wonderful things about my ego?
- Owen snarking. Sure, he's a bit of a prick, but he's actually saying all those things I feel about Gwen, so we bonded over that, he and I.
- Torchwood staff having Chinese. And gossiping about Jack. ^_^ If he ever comes clean, Toshiko will get the betting pool, for guessing correctly that Jack's attracted to anything that moves.
- "You people and your quaint little categories." You tell 'em, Jack!
- Rhys, who is adorable, and even makes Gwen bearable, in the scenes they share.
- Girlkissing. Damn, I'm shallow.
- "Do you need me to do any attacking, sir?" Awww, Ianto!
- "You travel halfway across the universe for the greatest sex, and you still end up dying alone." Sure, you're just talking about that alien, Jack. Suuuuuure.
- While Gwen is being all 'Ooooh, let me sacrifice myself, please, please, pretty please,' Jack just goes up to Carys, kisses her and gives her that extra time. And he does it with a joke on his lips. Which brings me to the point that in those tiny moments, Jack shows much more gentleness and compassion than a whole episode's worth of Gwen's plaititudes. If that's intentional on the writers' parts, many kudos to them.
