2 min. 25 sec.: Gwen seems to be doing much better, this time around. Guess she learned her stuff after all. Or maybe I was right about needing an episode written by a woman. Prognosis hopeful.

6 min. 14 sec.: Sense of humor! *dances* Also, I sarcastically remarked before that, if Gwen were to be paired up with anyone at Torchwood, it should be Owen, since they'd have the kind of trainwreck relationship that might actually be interesting. In this episode, they've progressed from sullenly hating each other to banter, and God help me, it's cute.

16 min. 55 sec.: Should say something concrete here, but that would entail a) spoilers, and b) me putting thoughts into a coherent pattern. All I'm gonna say is that Owen's 'vision' was incredibly painful for both him and me to watch, and the fact that Owen was the one to witness it is so very, very appropriate, after his aphrodesiac spray hijinks. Guess the writers knew what they were doing from the get-go after all. The intense amount of responsibility Owen feels for that girl gives us a whole new window into his character. My feelings on him morph from ambivalence to liking him lots.

21 min. 41 sec.: "Where do you sleep?" "I don't." And thus, my theory that Jack is turning into the Doctor - specifically Nine - is furthered. Also, Gwen getting used to the guns with gleeful abandon is love. Keep it up, and she's another character looking better and better in my eyes.

30 min.: I'm kind of loving Owen right now. A lot.

42 min. 36 sec.: Cool under pressure. Now this is a Gwen I like!

44 min. 18 sec.: And there's that loss of innocence. Manda? You called it.

In conclusion: This is the Torchwood I was waiting for. For the first time, I feel as though I'm watching an adult series (as advertised), rather than one aimed at thirteen year old boys. Not only did this episode work on a technical level, but on the more important emotional one as well. The characterization - particularly of characters who hadn't fared so well till now - was top-notch. Gwen finally feels like a real part of the team and we finally get to see the heart behind Owen's tactless front. My only real complaint was the utter lack of Ianto. Seriously, he had one appearance and one line. Once again, we get no naked Jack, which is a crime, but I do admit there's nowhere that could have fit in this episode.

*bounces up and down* I'm liking it lots, from the little I've seen so far.

*grins and catches up with your episode reaction* Yeah, I did call it. I'm actually SO GLAD to see the character growth in this episode. Not just for Gwen, but for OWEN. If he goes on like this, I may end up actually liking Owen.

Is it just me or did the scene with Gwen learning how to shoot seem like some of it was outtakes as well? Or a case of, "This is what you have to do, just go at it?" Because very little of that looked like it was scripted. But it did look fun! *coughs* Not that I would have objected to having Jack teach me how to shoot the way that he started out teaching her...

YES! As I said, I really love Owen here. Here's hoping he keeps going in this direction.

Seconded on all counts. And that was the scene that sold me on the new Gwen, cause yes! She was having fun! Also, on the way Jack was teaching her: Considering what we know of him and his time, it's likely how he was taught. Hey, Capt. Harkness - could I sign up for lessons too? It's not quite nekkidness, but almost as good, in retrospect.

...

I'm sorry. I'm now getting images of how Jack learned to shoot and...yeah. *coughs*

It's sad that the images in my head have someone very Nine-like as Jack's instructor. Not really Nine, but the same sort of outline, if that makes sense?

*coughs* And some instruction on the proper handling of weapons later on.

It makes perfect sense! Aside from the hot, we already know how well and quickly Jack responded to things Nine taught him, so someone like Nine would make a terrific lot of sense.

But of course! ^_^ It's hardly a proper lesson without it.
