Thoroughly enjoyable so far, but oh, the Buffy parallels. I'm twenty minutes in, and I could well be watching "Earshot." You know, if BtVS had more femmeslash, back in its third season days. (It had Faith, though. I call that a decent trade-off.)

Also, someone please explain to me why Mary reminds me so much of Darla.

Hmmm. Static. Guess Jack really has had psychic shield training.

Way to go, Mary. Stealing Turlough's backstory for your cover. Tsk-tsk. He'll be bitchy when he hears about that.

Wow. Really, actively liking Gwen here. In fact, I absolutely loved the two scenes Toshiko had at the end, first with Gwen, then with Jack.

I'd say this is one of the better episodes. There was some character behavior I felt was a bit too teenage-like and a few things could have been dealt with in greater detail, but the first is a minor quibble, and the second couldn't be helped, considering the episode length. We had interesting plot and sympathetic characters, as well as a satisfying ending. This episode also bears the distinction of being one of the few in the series not to leave me with a not-quite-identifiable dirty feeling, after I was done watching. And that? Is always a good thing.

Tally:

Queer content: Fiiiinally!
Jack naked: Err...he got his mind read? That could sorta kinda count?

Next episode looks promising, too.

I really liked this episode. Most of the people I talked to liked this episode. There is one person on my FL who doesn't like it, but she's been turned off of Torchwood for a while now. Which is sad, but not everyone likes the same stuff.

You know, he didn't really get his mind read at all. Right now, I'm equating Jack's mind with Gambit's. There's something protecting his mind, most likely the same power that keeps bringing him back to life. He's not dead, it's just that he has incredibly awesome natural shielding.

I definitely belong in the 'like' camp. Sure, it ain't "School Reunion," but considering SR was one of my favorite DW episodes ever...

That's what I thought at first, too. Hence "Hmmm. Static. Guess Jack really has had psychic shield training." But the fact that *Jack* is surprised by Toshiko's inability to read his mind tells me otherwise. It would have to be a trait he acquired only after dying. The one exception to the rule I can think of is if he was flat-out lying to Toshiko in that last scene, and a) it didn't look like he was, and b) he had no real reason to. So truth until proven otherwise.

Like I said, I think it's the same power that keeps him coming back to life. Which only happened after he died on the space station. Which is why I called it 'natural shielding' -- In the comics, Gambit's mind can't be read at all. It was thought this was part of his powers, but even when he lost his powers, no telepath could get into his mind.

I'm just sort of irked by Tosh saying it was like he was dead. Him being dead is different from being a mental blank to telepaths.`

Except that her comment seems more apt to what's been happening with him than not.

oh, and btw, do you happen to have the song "Missus" from the Buffy Musical? I mean, it techically was not in the musical, but remember when Buffy stabs Anya in season 7, the episode where Anya unleashes the Heat eating daemon and is all takin a stroll down memory lane the whole episode? Well, at one point in the episode, there is a flash back, after Anya gets all Buffy!stabbed when she is in bed with Zander and sings this song called Missus (http://www.uppercutmusic.com/artist_b/buffy_musical_episode_lyrics/missus_lyrics.html) and I can't find the MP3 ANYWHERE and it's driving me bonkers!

Do you have it? :D

Mmmm, hotness! Gimme a second to get my brain back together, before I answer your question. It seems to have rather melted. ^_^

As for the song, I don't know that an MP3 exists, as such. I do, however, own Season 7, so if someone taught me how to rip soundbytes from DVD I could do something about it. If you know how to do all of this, we just might make the perfect team.

I do own season seven too, but my cd/dvd player does not actually pla dvds for somereason (although my laptop does...) but i think you can just play the song, then record it while its playing with Windows Media Recorder....

...Which I don't have, for I am sad. (Windows Media Recorder, I mean.) Where would I find this program?

actually, it's called "sound recorder", my bad.

Go to START then ALL PROGRAMS then ACCESSORIES then ENTERTAINMENT and it should be there.

Aha! So, do I just work my DVD player and sound recorder simultaneously? Sounds simple enough. Lemme try.

...Shit. I need a microphone for this, don't I?

nope, you just play the episode and have the recorder open when you do it, and then hit record when it starts. But the automatic time set for recording is rather small, so half way through the song, the recording will probably stop, so just quick hit record again and it'll start again.

this is alot of trouble, you really dont have to do it. :)

I try. No promises, cause I'm a tech dunce, but I'll try.

Oh, come on now. It so counts.

Just finished watching. In short, I approve. And as to the next episode? WORD.

I much approve of the recent trend toward non-suckiness. Long may it live.
