Heroes - Unexpected
Feb. 20th, 2007 09:46 pmI wish I was sad about Simone dying, but my having no opinion on her character during her entire run on the show resulted in nil emotion about her leaving. To tell the truth, I was more upset about the one-shot character Syler killed in this episode. Which just proves one thing - it's not enough to make your characters sympathetic. They have to be interesting too. I'm not arguing Simone's being a nice person, but boy was she bland.
I don't get it, I really don't. Some of the characters in this show are better people than others, most definitely, but almost all of them, from Hiro to Mr. Muggles are interesting, engaging and unique. Simone, on the other hand... She may not have been Gwen Cooper (thank the gods), but I get the impression she was created slightly in the same mold. Someone 'normal' for the audience to identify with. Well, call me crazy, but I'd rather identify with Claire. Or Hiro. Or hell, Nathan. Powers, warts and all.
It...er, probably didn't help that I find romantic triangle plots inherently boring and jealousy a silly, overblown emotion. Either choose one and stick with him, or go for happy fun threesome.
In other news:
Mohinder better start figuring out who his travelling companion is (he's got enough hints for it), or I officially proclaim him dense.
Hiro and Ando separating made me tear up a little. Aw, man. They had a great dynamic.
This better not be the last we see of Claude.
I love Claire. This bears repeating.
They didn't follow up on the assassination plot. Bastards.
And another cliffhanger. With my favorite character caught in it this time. Well damn.

Also also: Peter is now badass to the max.
