Deryni Rising
Jan. 13th, 2006 07:33 pmAs the subject line states, I've just finished Deryni Rising on the train today. Sadly, the squeeing had to be non-verbal, thanks to my being in public. And now I'm really glad I have the omnibus, because Rising is in no way meant to stand alone. There are too many loose ends left - not that it's a bad thing at all. But now I can't wait to start Checkmate.
Random thoughts:
That thing for Morgan - which I don't have - is now coupled with an urge to cuddle him, and make him eat and sleep. Poor boy needs a break, dammit.
Kelson is my baby. That's been a fact since the trial scene.
The rhymed incantations in the climax scene are actually quite good. (It bears mentioning that I am a sucker for rhymed incantations, but have read a lot of shite ones.)
I kind of want more of Charissa. She makes a kick-ass villain, and I love that she actually has a compelling reason to believe she's in the right. She's also effective.
The scene with Morgan, Kelson and Duncan at Brion's coffin made me sniffle a bit.
I seriously wonder how much of the subtext everyone has with everybody is canon, and how much is Lily being a fangirl. I hope it's more of the former. *g*
