New Orleans
Reminiscent of hothouse blooms on a humid night, ripe, but touched with decay. Sweet honeysuckle and jasmine with a hint of lemon and spice.

In bottle - a bit stronger than I care for.

On me (wet) - a sharp, soapy bitter-floral smell that made me gag a bit. According to Mom, it smells like men's collogne.

On me (dry) - the smell has mellowed and sweetened a bit - ah, there's that lemon! - but is overall still too soapy.

Verdict - pass! I wish I knew which note is the one bugging me: honeysuckle or jasmine, so that I'd know which to avoid in the future and which to give another chance. Heavens help me if it's both or a combination of the two.

Judging from your description, I think it's more likely to be jasmine--honeysuckle is a lot lighter and more pleasant a floral. If you want to test, though, take a whiff of my Shanghai someday when you're over, as that's got honeysuckle but no jasmine. (One of my very favorites, too.)

I've been eying Shanghai anyway, so that sounds perfect. Thanks!

I think it's probably the jasmine, but I wouldn't write it off completely until you've tried a few different blends with jasmine in it, because different components do different things depending on what they're mixed with.

Makes sense. I'll look around and see if there's a scent with jasmine surrounded by notes I know I like.
