Oct. 8th, 2007 10:36 pmDon't the people in my fucking house ever fucking have work to do? Ever? Because clearly what the rest of the world needs is idiots running screaming through the hallways. If they keep me from getting my work done or getting any sleep before my hell day again, I'm seriously going to kill someone.
I love art majors, but I bloody hate living with them. No reading or written assignments for them, so whenever they're in the house, they can feel free to make asses of themselves. At least the visual arts people have to spend a lot of time in VAPA daily. The performers have no work at all, unless they're rehearsing. Why, yes, I resent that.
And you know what? I still think it shouldn't preclude them from basic human decency and consideration for others.
You know what? Fuck it. I'm not locking this.

Date: 2007-10-09 01:58 pm (UTC)Technically, I live in one, or the female equivalent thereof, with a bunch of other transfer students. I learned to say "transfer house" fairly quickly.
I hope you managed to get some sleep.

Date: 2007-10-09 03:12 am (UTC)The worst part is, I can remember a time when McCullough was perfectly reasonable to live in. The fact that I can even utter that last sentence with a straight face officiates my status as Cranky Old Lady.

Date: 2007-10-09 02:03 pm (UTC)Come to think of it, these people were on my hall last year, too.
(The people on my hall over the summer were quiet and unseen enough to be nonexistent; they just stole my dishes.)
Point being: basic human decency is really cool and people who have it are awesome. Thanks for existing!

Date: 2007-10-09 03:16 pm (UTC)Really? That's waaaay different than when I was a theatre major. First of all, they cut back the credit hours on a lot of our classes, so they could fit more in. I think I was taking 5 classes for 13 credit hours. There was rehearsal and set building going on constantly. Plus most of the theatre classes would load you down with written homework as well.
That rambling said...I'm sorry!
~hugs~

Date: 2007-10-09 04:50 pm (UTC)Did you go to an art school, or a liberal arts school with a good theatre major?
Rambling is not a problem at all! Heck, I do it all the time.

Date: 2007-10-09 07:23 pm (UTC)Dang! No, here students with a theatre lab do sets, costumes et. al
Heh. All theatre majors were required to take 6 semesters of...I forget exactly what it was called now, production-something-or-other but it was basically 3 hours twice a week, either in the scene or costume shop, all for the low low price of 1 credit hour. And if you weren't in the show, you were running tech in the show...

Date: 2007-10-10 01:13 am (UTC)McCullough does not have quiet hours. Which basically means that, in the context of the McCullough community, being "considerate" means being as loud as you want until someone asks you to shut up. People choose to live in non quiet-hour houses presumably because they want the freedom to be able to hang out in the hallways and such without having to worry too much about being disruptive. There are other places to go on campus to find quiet. The library, for example. But it can be hard to find other places to establish and continue a sense of house community. In some houses people don't care per se about house community (they just visit friends when they want to and then return to their rooms for peace and quiet), but McCullough does not seem to be such a house bc it has no quiet hours.
Sorry if I'm being rude. I do sympathise with you to an extent, I just also sympathise with the freshmen to a similar extent, and I thought it would be good for you to at least hear the other side of things. They don't lack consideration; they just have very different priorities than you do.
All opinions aside though, it sounds like you really need to move. I'd love to have you in Noyes, but I must warn you that Noyes also has a lot of freshmen and a strong sense of house community (and the desire to do what it takes to maintain that) and people do tend to hang out in the hallways a lot. Noyes people will shut up or move if you ask them nicely tho (I'm not sure if this is the case or not with McCullough). And Noyesians also generally have reasonable bedtimes (12-1ish). Just some stuff to consider.

Date: 2007-10-10 02:20 am (UTC)I've talked to people about being more quiet before, it generally works for a short amount of time, before the noise level goes right back up. I'm not going to keep nagging, nor am I going to get house chairs involved. Loud and obnoxious still beats drama.
