Jul. 25th, 2009 08:30 pmIn her entry,
nevacaruso defines the Akio Test: "Specific to fandom, but not just one fandom. A game in which crazy Utena fangirls try to figure out whether any given character would be able to withstand Akio's charms (for the purposes of the game, we assume that they don't know from the outset what he's about - though some characters are certainly capable of figuring it out over the course of the encounter. Whether or not they care is another matter)."
The obvious next step is for me to subject the characters in my current fandoms to said test.
Yagami Light - He's a tough one to pin down, actually. He could end up a lot like Touga, thinking he's on his way to great things, all the while being manipulated by someone so far out of his league he's not even in sight. Or, he could have an allergic reaction to another Alpha wolf in the territory; someone he clearly can't wrap around his finger. At this point, he would get immensely frustrated as he realizes that Akio can't die.
Verdict: 50/50 on the seduction; utter fail on his chances of victory.
L - Going by his reaction to Light, it's very possible L would be drawn to Akio's manipulative genius. Shame it won't do Akio any good. Being attracted to Light didn't make L any less determined to arrest and effectively kill him. I doubt Akio would fare better. Really, he's the sort of opponent Akio would have to avoid or remove.
Verdict: Fail on the seduction, but it won't hurt him any.
Near - ...This is Near not giving a shit. I doubt he'd even notice a seduction attempt, and if he did, he'd either see it as somewhat pathetic or assume it's a manipulation tactic.
Verdict: A big, resounding win!
Mello - He'd fail the test and fail hard. On the other hand, Akio's manipulative and sadistic streaks may well be what attract Mello to him in the first place. So he'd be failing with his eyes open. Additionally, Mello has a number of defensive behaviors in play. You can fuck with him once. That's it. Try it again and he will kill you. Or, y'know, try to.
Verdict: Fail, but there's some hope for the future. This isn't within the scope of this particular test, but when it comes to Mello and the Utena-verse, he is such a Black Rose it's not even funny. If Akio wanted a handle on him, that would really be the way to go.
Yagami-san - Akio has no chance. The end. Completely aside from the man being completely straight, he's far too upright to betray his marriage like that, let alone even approach the dark side.
Verdict: See above.
Misa - Oh my Shinigami, Misa Misa fails this test so hard there's not really much more for me to add. Sadly, it's possible Akio would still treat her better than Light does. Oi vey.
Verdict: All aboard the fail train!
Mikami - In most circumstances, he fails as hard as Misa does, if not harder. If he saw even a glimpse of Akio being evil, he'd be outa there, but is he likely to? Nooooo.
Verdict: Painful.
Takada - When it comes to Utena analogies, Takada is Kanae. Which is to say, she'll get suspicious on occasion but bury it deep and mistake it for wistfulness.
Verdict: In Akio's clutches, hook, line and sinker.
To be continued. Death Note has a large cast, and I'll be doing all the ones I can gather enough character information on.
