I have the oddest, most persistent craving to play the Computer Games of My Childhood (tm). You know, Oregon Trail, Carmen Sandiego, the spinoffs thereof... Don't know why; not sure I care why. It's just kind of there, nagging at me. Alas, free downloads don't seem to exist, and I don't do impulse shopping, which this would so be. Alas, indeed.

I know there are some online versions of Oregon Trail. I've got a friend who does co-op games with friends every so often. I can find out what she uses?

I don't know about Carmen Sandiego though. God I miss those games. Where in the World was my favorite. Where in the Solar System was impossible.

Oooh, that'd be awesome thanks!

I don't actually think I've played Solar System. I remember World (various versions), USA and Time.

Time ran out WAY too fast in Solar System. I got SO CLOSE once, playing with a friend so we could figure stuff out faster, but then the game crashed and we never found out if we would have won.

Meh, that sucks. I'm no fan of games being that strictly timed. Or crashing, which I seem to have particularly bad luck with, in my history.

Yeah. It made me sad, cause I love space and I knew tons about the planets and their moons, but I could NOT play that game.

http://www.hotud.org is a site fameousish for posting abandonware.

This isn't quite legal, but... (well read their FAQ for their opinion of it)

Heh. I tend to be rather on their side, when it comes to download availability. Thank you!

virtualapple.org has an emulator for the original Apple II version, which runs right in your browser. Windows only IIRC, but still way cool.
