Thing 1: I appear to be sick as a canis domesticus.

Thing 2: I have a ten-page paper due in the near future. Thing 2 does not get along with thing 1.

Thing 3: Sick!naps don't particularly lead to rest, but they do lead to the creation of characters, complete with plot, to go into whichever LARP idea suits them best.

Thing 4: Because I need distraction, have a fan meme:

Mello?

1. Near. Just... the way they interact in canon. They're the perfect sort of rivals, where there's genuine resentment and competition, but they can't really get along without one another. Being around the other makes them stronger, smarter, sharper. And we know that when push comes to shove, Mello would die so that Near wouldn't have to.

2. L. Another Note really sold me on this pairing. The way Mello talks about L, it's clear that he adores the guy and respects the hell out of him, and the fact that L, who's not the most social of people at best would sit down and tell him stories show that they really made a connection, back when Mello was a kid. Mello's exactly the sort of person to take that kind of admiration and turn it into a fierce, obsessive crush.

3. Matt. While most of the time, I tend to read those two as platonic friends (cause how often does *that* happen, *g*), I'm also a real sucker for best friend/partner pairings. Those two are actually good to/for each other, to the point where they're probably the only combination of people in Death Note to pass the Brocoli Test.

I would love to read (or write) funny, in-character fic about Matt, Mello, and the Broccoli Test.
